Udupi: Escaped rape convict traced in District

Udupi: The Udupi District police has arrested Rajesh (39), who has escaped after serving a life sentence in Kerala.

The accused is a resident of Neyyattinkara Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram District, was booked for murder and rape at Vattappara Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram Rural District. He was tried and convicted in the court, and was lodged in the Central Jail from where he was sent to Nettukaltheri open jail, from where he escaped from the jail on December 12, 2020. A case in this regard was registered at the Neyyar Dam Police Station.

In 2012, the court had delivered a fast-track trial in the rape and murder of a minor girl and sentenced him to death in 2013, which was later sentenced to life imprisonment. Acting on a tip-off that the accused lives in Udupi, the team took the accused into custody at Nailadi of Billadi, Kabbina Hitlu in Brahmavar Taluk and informed the Kerala Police.

The Kerala Police produced the accused in Kundapur Court and took him to Kerala as per the court’s order.
