Udupi: Four trucks, sand, red stones seized for illegal mining

Udupi: Officials from the Mines and Geology departments conducted raids at two locations in the taluk and seized four trucks, eight tonnes of sand, and 14 tonnes of red stones.

A raid was held on Sunday September 4, in Battekudru near Haklady village in Kundapura on the banks of the Chakra river by geoscientist Sandhya, under the supervision of senior Geoscientist Sandeep G. U., in line with a tip from the public on September 3 night. In the raid, eight metric tonnes of sand and one truck were seized by the officers.

In another case, a morning raid was carried out at the taluk’s Aloor village, when three trucks and 14 metric tonnes of red stones were seized, according to a tip from the public.

The trucks, sand, and stones are kept at the Gangolli Police Station for further legal action.
