Udupi: Balwant Bhai Tandela, a native of Gujarat, who had come to Malpe in search of a fishing job to earn a living, fell ill and died at the District hospital. Social worker Vishu Shetty performed the last rites at the burial ground in Beedinagudde in the presence of his relatives.

Balwant Bhai, who was in a critical condition, was admitted to the District Hospital by Vishu Shetty. He then traced the relatives and informed them. However, the man died without responding to treatment. Thereafter, Vishu Shetty took his relatives to Malpe Police Station as well as District Hospital and conducted legal proceedings.

When relatives expressed helplessness to take the body to Gujarat after conducting the postmortem, Vishu Shetty himself performed the last rites at the Beedinagudde crematorium.

A woman from Malpe, who came to know about the incident, bore the expenses of the funeral. Malpe Police Station ASI Taniya, social activist Ramdas Palan Udyavar and Kadabettu Hussain cooperated.
