Udupi: A total of seven nominations were withdrawn from five Assembly constituencies in Udupi District on Monday April 23.

K. Krishnamurthy Acharya, who had decided to contest as an independent candidate from Udupi constituency after being denied a ticket by the Congress, withdrew his nomination papers.

April 24 was the last day for withdrawal of candidature by candidates who had filed their nominations for the Assembly elections. K. Krishnamurthy Acharya, who was a strong contender for a Congress ticket from Udupi, was denied the ticket. Naturally upset with this, he decided to contest as an independent candidate.
