Udupi: Key accused in Ottinene case dies by suicide in jail

Udupi: An undertrial died by suicide by hanging himself at the District Central Jail near Hiriadaka in the wee hours of Sunday December 11.

The deceased has been identified as Sadananda Sherigar, a resident of Peradka in Mala Village of Karkala Taluk.

He, along with three others, had burnt Ananda Devadiga of Karkala to death in a car at a deserted area near Ottinene in Byndoor taluk.The act was done with the intention of escaping in a case. However, Sadananda Sherigar, his girlfriend Shilpa Salian, Satish Devadiga and Nitish Devadiga were later arrested by the police.

Sadananda Sherigar was suffering from depression after he was jailed. Due to this reason, he resorted to suicide by hanging himself with a dhoti.

It is learnt that Sadanand Sherigar breathed his last on the way to the hospital as the other inmates noticed this and released him from the noose and took him to the hospital.

The body has been kept at Ajjarkadu Mortuary and Additional Superintendent of Police S. T. Siddalingappa, Udupi Deputy SP Sudhakar Naik and staff are camping at the spot.
