Udupi: It was wrong on the part of the staff at St. Mary’s Island in Malpe to misbehave with a tourist, said MLA Raghupathi Bhat and added that the Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao has ordered a probe to take action against the staff.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said that in the conditions for tender, it has been mentioned that a fee should be charged for the cameras of tourists. It is also a part of the income of the contractor who won the tender. Deputy Commissioner and I have already held discussions that the tender conditions should be removed. When tourists and bloggers come and take photos and videos and put them up on their social media, they get a lot of publicity. Also, it is helpful in attracting more tourists,” he noted.

“Therefore, a decision will be taken to revisit the tender conditions and amend certain parts, including the condition of charging for the cameras,” he said.
