Udupi: A concerned parent in Udupi reported to the police that her 14-year-old daughter’s photo was manipulated and used inappropriately in a vulgar video circulated on Snapchat.
The mother explained in her complaint to the Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime police station that the photo of her daughter was used in the explicit video and shared with her daughter’s contacts on Snapchat on July 30.
The video had been disseminated through a fake Snapchat account.
According to the police, the complaint has been officially registered under Sections 66 (C) and 67 (B) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. They are currently pursuing leads to identify and locate the suspect. The police have also contacted Snapchat, requesting the removal of the video.
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old student residing in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district filed a complaint against an Instagram account holder named “Jigr_Cobra” for sending offensive and vulgar messages.
The student lodged the complaint with the Udupi CEN police on July 29, detailing the harassment she experienced due to the inappropriate messages from the said account holder. Her complaint has been formally registered under Section 67 of the IT Act and Section 354(D) of the Indian Penal Code.
