Udupi: NH – 169 between Mangaluru and Shivamogga traverses via Moodabidri – Karkala – Bajagoli and then passes through Kudremukh National Park to reach Thirthahalli. NH 169 was previously named NH – 13 and is the Highway that includes both narrow and wide width in various parts.
The Highway in the recent past has been repaired and widened in several parts and also in the news as NHAI is set to widen the Mangaluru-Sanoor stretch to four lane. Moreover, many environmentalists and localities are against cutting thousands of trees in this process.
The Highway in between the Karkala – Bajagoli stretch passes through Kuntibail, and Miyyaru wherein a massive pothole emerges in the very place year after year. This year too a pothole emerged and like every year the pothole has been filled.
The road there is slightly inclined and declined on both ends and many motor vehicle accidents occur in the region. The water in the pothole when it rains covers up the entire road and thus people without having any awareness of the pothole existing there meet with accidents. Many two-wheelers fall due to the pothole.
Pothole happens in the very spot every year but it’s not repaired well, the locals lament. The temporary patch works get dissolved after a few rains, say the locals. They have urged that NHAI must take immediate action to prevent any more disasters.
Further, there are also many more potholes on the Moodabidri – Karkala – Bajagoli which also need a permanent fix.
