Udupi: Usha Anand Ganiga, a resident of Kattu in Hemmadi Village of Kundapur Taluk, has made a living by cultivating a variety of crops on her two-acre farmland for the past 17 years.

They grow paddy during the monsoon, use the water from wells and ponds during the rabi and summer to cultivate ladies finger, okra, and jasmine, earning around Rs. 20,000 a month, educating her two children and supporting the family.

Adopting organic farming methods, she has planted more than 200 jasmine plants in 40 cents of land. She supplies the jasmine flower to Mangalore by bus, sells the jasmine from the plant and earns a decent income by grinding groundnuts and manure for the jasmine plants.

Usha Ganiga grows Indian Spinach in 10 cents of land, along with that she also grows Okra and Ivy gourds in 20 cents of land. With the help of husband Anand Gainga, she sends it to Kundapura market.

Usha Ganiga is a role model for other women.
