Udupi: Udupi District Congress Committee staged a huge protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Union Government here at Brahmavar Junction on Friday July 22.
The ED grilled Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday July 21 at New Delhi in connection with an alleged National Herald money laundering case. The huge procession of Congress leaders and workers began from near the Holy Family Church and culminated at Brahmavar Bus Stop Junction.
Dinakar Heroor, Brahmavar Block Congress Committee President welcomed the gathering. Ashok Kumar Kodavoor spoke about the birth of Associated Journal Ltd by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He said the Associated Journal started against the British rulers in order to give news about the agitation of Congress. Now BJP is trying to malign the Congress Party by enforcing ED on to our Congress leaders. Jaitley during 2015 in the BJP ruling at the centre said that there is no such money laundering process. But Subrahmanyan Swami, BJP leader, once again caused controversy by bringing back the case.
U. T. Abdul Khader, Deputy Leader in State Legislative Assembly and Former Minister, said that he strongly condemned the grilling of Congress Leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the money laundering case. The Union Government is trying to make a weak Constitution by arresting them by using their powers to harass Congress Leaders and trying to finish the Congress, the grand old party. British people tried to finish the Congress party, now BJP is trying to end the Congress party which they did not succeed. British people also tried to close the newspapers. He is asking what the contest of the case is. There were no FIRs registered. BJP is very busy with maligning the Congress Leaders that they fear the Congress.
He said that the money laundering case of Congress Leaders was closed by the court of law. He criticised BJP, the vindictive and tyrannical Central Government for using the ED to harass Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are being harassed on the pretext of an ED inquiry which is not just an injustice to the Congress but a threat to the Constitution and Democracy itself.
Vinay Kumar Sorake Former Minister said that the BJP government at the Centre is using ED and other Constitutional agencies to silence the Opposition from raising a voice against the various burning issues in India. Under the UPA Government India was ranked third in the economy in India but now under BJP rule they raised 163rs rank. There were plenty of contributions to the development of the country by the UPA. But, the Union Government has been looting the poor people by taxing daily needed food items and helping rich people to become richer. The Aadhar Card system, RTI and other information units were brought by the UPA. Where is your Akhand Bharath? BJP is trying to bend Congress party by using Government agencies. It is impossible to destroy the Congress Party, he warned the BJP. The main objectives of the Congress party is to safeguard our citizens.

Block Congress Leaders, Senior Congress Leaders, Former Block Congress Leaders and a large number of Congress workers were present during the protest meet. Congress party workers chanted slogans condemning the EDs action over their leaders during the procession as well as during the protest meet.
