Udupi: Uppinakudru Sri Devanna Padmanabha Kamath Memorial Yakshagana Bombeyata Trust, which has been conducting Yakshagana puppetry for six generations, has been selected for this year’s Sri Vishwesha Theertha Award by Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi, in recognition of its unique contribution to the field of Yakshagana.
Having played a great role in preserving and nurturing traditional singing and interpretation, the institute is credited with showcasing this art not only in the region but also in various countries.
Bhaskara Kogga Kamath, who is presently the Director, has built a well-equipped theatre with all the basic amenities at Uppina Kudru and has provided it free of cost to various art forms to facilitate the promotion of various art forms.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Gangadhar Rao President and Murali Kadekar Secretary of Yakshagana Kalaranga said that the award ceremony will be held at The Town Hall in Mangaluru on November 13.
