Udupi: Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport Department and District In-charge Minister S. Angara said that the citizens who avail the personal benefits provided by the Government should take advantage of them and become financially empowered.
He was speaking after inaugurating a programme to distribute benefits to the beneficiaries of various schemes of corporations and create awareness among pourakarmikas at Madhavakrishna Auditorium, Kidiyoor Hotel here on Monday February 27 in association with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Social Welfare Department, Backward Classes Welfare Department, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Development Corporation, Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Development Corporation and various Development Corporations, Udupi District. He said that the Government through various departments and corporations is personally distributing benefits for the economic development of the economically weaker sections and scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes in various schemes. In order to make the fishermen financially empowered in the Fisheries Department, with a view to involving them in the marketing system, a scheme has been implemented to distribute three-wheelers under the Pradhan Mantri Matsyotsava Sampada Yojana to enable them to sell the fish caught in the sea directly to the consumers and earn higher financial benefits. By adopting a cold storage and packing system in this vehicle, customers will be able to sell fresh fish, he said.
He said that the public who have availed the benefits of the Government should take advantage of it and inspire others and try to ensure that the privileges are not availed again and again but equally accessible to all.
