Udupi: ‘Yakshagana art is a glue that unites the society. The name of Dr. Shivaram Karanth is included in Udupi, which is a big tree. I am just a sprout that blooms in spring,” said Author Rohit Chakratheertha in his keynote address on the dais of Samagra Yakshagana Sammelana.

“There has been a constant attack on art, and there is a conspiracy to break it. Mother India had three children, the first being the Veda or Vedanta, the second the epics and the third the Puranas. In a great way, a big conspiracy is being hatched to falsify the mythology of this country. If there is one medium which has retained mythology in a pure way, it is Yakshagana. Mythological stories have to survive in Yakshagana if mythology is to be preserved.”

“Intellectuals are making a huge effort to prove the myth as false. But they can’t do that. I am with the larger system, and if you want to question it, you need to be careful about how many years it has been going on,” he said.

“Now you don’t need mythology to write an episode, watch a story, a novel, a movie, watch a modern life, and anybody can write anything. When scholars support it, there will be a big impact,” he said.
