Kundapur: Congress rebel candidate Jayaprakash Hegde lashing out at the party said that it was wrong on the part of the Congress to have fielded a person who was not interest to contest the MLC polls.
Addressing the reporters on Sunday, Hegde, who after a fall out with the Congress decided to contest the MLC polls as an independent candidate from Dakshina Kannada-Udupi constituency, said that if the Congress drops its candidate for the MLC polls Prathapchandra Shetty by December 12 (last day to withdraw nominations), then he will withdraw his own nomination from
fray.
Hegde opined that when Shetty has been saying over the last six years that he does not want to contest the MLC polls, there was no point in supporting his candidature.
He also questioned the Congress’ unilateral decision of field sitting MLC Prathapchandra Shetty without consulting the party members.
“There are many others in the party who are more capable than Shetty,” he opined adding that his personal decision to contest the polls as an independent candidate was on behalf of and with support of the Congress party workers.
J P Hegde, another Congress rebel candidate Bhujanga Shetty, Kota block Congress president Shankar Kunder and Billawa community leader Harikrishna Bantwal are expected to file nominations on December 7.
