Karwar: Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Kumar Pushkar said that the Central Government should come up with a plan to conserve the endangered sea turtles.

He was speaking at a turtle festival organised at Vanasiri Bhavan in Kodi Area of the City on Thursday March 30. “The endangered Olive Ridley Turtle is currently found in a few parts of the country and the Forest Department has come to its rescue. The local fishermen and the public too should help in this,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Sirsi Canara Circle Forest Conservator Vasanthareddy said that turtles have been protected in Honnavar for a long time. “More than 10,000 turtle young ones have already been rescued. In the next two months, we will also start a coastal marine cell in Honnavar zone,” he said.
