In Hubli, the ongoing construction of a new flyover project has sparked significant controversy due to unexpected changes in the project’s blueprint. Originally, the plan did not include the clearance of the Edgah compound, a key religious site. However, recent reports reveal that part of the Edgah Maidan compound near Rani Channamma Circle will be cleared to accommodate the flyover, leading to widespread concern and uproar within the community.
Altaf Hallura, a prominent leader in the Muslim community, has voiced strong objections to the sudden change in the project plan. He expressed his frustration, stating, “Now they have changed the map and decided to vacate the compound.” This alteration has led to confusion and dissatisfaction among local residents, who feel that the decision disregards the historical and religious significance of the Edgah Maidan.
The Anjuman organization, which represents the interests of the affected community, held an emergency meeting to address the situation. Naveed Mulla from the Anjuman Education Board emphasized that while development projects are crucial, they should not come at the cost of disturbing religious sites or disrupting communal harmony. Mulla has urged Minister Santhosh Lad to clarify the situation and address concerns regarding the impact on Edgah Maidan.
In response to the controversy, representatives from the Anjuman organization visited the National Highways Authority office in Ashokanagar to discuss the issue with officials. The authorities have reportedly communicated the concerns to both the municipal corporation and the land acquisition authority, seeking a resolution that would accommodate both the development needs and the preservation of religious spaces.
The situation remains tense as stakeholders await further information and a potential resolution. The community is hopeful that a solution will be reached that respects the sanctity of religious spaces while still allowing for necessary infrastructure development. The ongoing dialogue between the Anjuman organization, local officials, and development authorities is expected to play a crucial role in resolving the matter and ensuring that communal harmony is maintained.
