Deadline For High Security Registration Plates Extended To September 15 In Karnataka

Bengaluru: The State Government has extended the deadline for the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to September 15. The Transport Department issued a notification on Wednesday, granting vehicle owners additional time to affix the HSRPs.

The extension follows a petition filed by the HSRP Manufacturers’ Association of India and others. Last month, the Transport Department assured the High Court that no “precipitative action” would be taken against non-compliant vehicles until June 12. The High Court is currently hearing writ petitions challenging the Department’s August 17, 2023 notification, which mandates HSRPs for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Vehicles registered after this date receive the HSRP at the time of registration.

Motorists are facing challenges, particularly those with vehicles from companies that have exited the Indian market or ceased manufacturing. Additionally, residents of Karnataka with vehicles registered in other states are finding it difficult to book HSRPs. Vehicle owners have urged authorities to address these issues and provide solutions.
