Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa announced that the Karnataka government is contemplating distributing pulses, sugar, or cooking oil to Below Poverty Line (BPL) cardholders under the Anna Bhagya scheme, replacing the current cash or rice provision. A recent survey revealed that 93% of BPL cardholders preferred receiving these essential items over cash.
Muniyappa plans to discuss this with officials and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. During a meeting with Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi, it was assured that the Centre would provide any required quantity of rice for the state’s distribution efforts.
