A shocking case of murder has emerged from Kengeri in Bengaluru, where a 70-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her daughter and grandson following a family dispute. The crime was uncovered only after the accused invited a friend to their home for a drinking session.

The deceased has been identified as Jayamma, who had been staying with her daughter Bhagyalakshmi and grandson Kushal at their residence in Subhashnagar near Kengeri Satellite Town.

Argument over alcohol and money turns fatal

According to the preliminary investigation, the family was allegedly addicted to alcohol and frequently spent money obtained from the sale of property.

Police said an argument broke out between Jayamma and Bhagyalakshmi over the use of the property money. The dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Bhagyalakshmi allegedly assaulted her mother. Kushal reportedly joined the attack.

Investigators said the duo allegedly struck Jayamma with a wooden pounding stick used for preparing ragi balls, causing fatal injuries.

Crime uncovered after friend raises suspicion

After the incident, the accused allegedly kept the death hidden and did not inform anyone.

In a bizarre turn of events, Kushal later called a friend and asked him to bring liquor, claiming that his grandmother had died and that he was emotionally disturbed.

When the friend arrived at the house, he reportedly found Jayamma’s body lying near the bathroom with visible injuries. Sensing foul play, he immediately alerted the police.

Mother and son arrested

Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Bhagyalakshmi and Kushal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Anitha B Haddannavar said the elderly woman was found dead inside the house and that the accused were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the argument occurred.

The Kengeri police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to murder and are continuing further investigation.
