Gadag: Residents of Gadag are pressing the Union government for updates on the promised Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) that has yet to materialize despite being announced in the central budget a decade ago. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently noted that a KV has been established in Yesvantpur and that a proposal for another KV in Kunchiganal village, Chitradurga district, is under review. However, there was no mention of the Gadag KV.
Chadrakant Chavan, state general secretary of Jaya Karnataka, highlighted that while KVs for Gadag and Haveri were announced ten years ago, only the Haveri KV, which opened in 2015 and now offers classes up to the 10th standard, has been realized. Gadag residents are still waiting for their KV.
Gadag district administration has identified 10 acres of land at Shirunja village, approximately 15 km from the city, for the KV project. However, Gadag DC Govind Reddy has not responded to inquiries about the project’s status. Ganesh Singh Byali, president of the Betageri Railway Abhivruddhi Horata Samiti, suggested that 110 acres of vacant railway land behind Gadag railway station would be an ideal location for the KV, benefiting many students in the district. He accused certain interests of delaying the project to push students toward private schools.
Former CM and Haveri MP Basavaraj Bommai confirmed that the delay was due to land issues but assured that once the land is provided, the KV will be established.
Currently, only Gadag, Chitradurga, and Yadgir districts lack KVs, with Chitradurga’s proposal under consideration and no proposal for Yadgir.
