The Karnataka government has decided to focus on strengthening garbage collection across Bengaluru over the next three months instead of waiting for a new waste management system to be implemented.
Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Thursday directed officials to ensure efficient door-to-door waste collection in an effort to eliminate garbage black spots that continue to affect several parts of the city.
Door-to-door collection to be intensified
Speaking during a review meeting, the minister said instructions had already been issued to improve household-level garbage collection. He stressed that every household must be covered under the collection network to prevent waste from being dumped in open spaces.
According to him, the task is challenging and requires considerable effort from civic authorities, but the government is determined to address the issue on priority.
“Garbage will be collected from every household to eliminate black spots across the city,” he said, emphasising the need for sustained action rather than temporary measures.
Focus on immediate results
The minister indicated that the government would not delay action while waiting for larger waste management reforms to take shape. Instead, officials have been asked to focus on practical and immediate solutions that can improve cleanliness across Bengaluru in the short term.
Garbage black spots have remained a concern in several localities despite ongoing efforts by civic agencies. Residents have frequently raised complaints regarding uncollected waste, overflowing bins and illegal dumping.
Civic officials directed to monitor progress
Officials have been instructed to closely monitor collection services and ensure accountability in waste management operations. The government hopes that consistent collection from households and better supervision will significantly reduce visible garbage accumulation across the city.
The initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve urban sanitation and enhance the quality of life for Bengaluru resident
