A tragic incident occurred in Doddaballapura, where a 13-year-old girl, Chetana, died in a Bengaluru hospital on Monday after being electrocuted by an electric wire near a Ganesha idol in Konaghatta village. Despite precautions and peace meetings conducted by the police department before the festival, the incident occurred due to the unauthorized installation of the Ganesha idol without permission from BESCOM.
An investigation is underway, with a complaint registered at the rural police station. District Superintendent of Police C.K. Baba assured that action will be taken against the culprits after the post-mortem report. BESCOM Executive Engineer H.P. Vinaykumar also stated that action will be taken against those responsible after the post-mortem report is obtained.
Before the festival, the police department had conducted peace meetings and informed the public about law enforcement and precautions to be taken. Rules included no DJ during the Ganesha idol procession, discharge of Ganesha idols to be completed by 8 pm, and no sound amplifiers to be used for long hours at night. However, allegations have been raised that these rules are not being followed.
The public has demanded that local police take appropriate action against those who do not obey the law. Vigilance is required to prevent such incidents from recurring. This incident highlights the importance of following rules and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during festivals.
