Udupi: The state government has raised the price of alcohol for the purpose of implementing guarantee schemes, resulting in difficulties for wage laborers. Therefore, the alcoholics demanded the government provide free liquor to the alcoholics as per the government’s free guarantee scheme.
Under the leadership of the Udupi Civic Committee, alcoholics staged an innovative protest at Chittaranjan Circle in the city demanding free liquor.
They decorated the liquor bottle with flowers, lit aarti, and beat the drum to attract the attention of the government.
Speaking later, the organizer of the civic committee, Nithyananda Ukkadu, said that the government should provide 90 ml of alcohol in the morning and 90 ml in the evening to the alcoholics as per the free scheme. Alcoholics give more economic power to the government. However, he expressed outrage that the government has done an injustice by increasing the price of alcohol in the budget to the alcoholics who are giving financial strength to the government by consuming alcohol.
Alcohol addicts are filling the government coffers. Due to the increase in the price of alcohol, wage laborers are facing a helpless situation to consume alcohol. The alcoholics demanded that the government should implement a scheme to provide free liquor to the working class, just as it had given free fortunes.
