Shimoga: A significant theft at the Sringeri Mutt has prompted an investigation by the Holehonnur police station. A devotee has reported the theft of a golden shoe belonging to the Sharda Peetha, established by the revered Shankaracharya. The golden shoe, valued at approximately Rs. 60 lakh, was among several stolen items.

According to the complaint lodged, the theft involved not only the golden shoe but also other valuable items such as a silver seal, a large seal, a small seal, and a silver seal known as Srimannarayanaskritya. The theft was discovered when the temple priest noticed a discrepancy with the cupboard lock— it was different from the usual one.

Upon further inspection, the cupboard was found to be empty, with the golden shoe and other valuable items missing. This discovery prompted the immediate filing of a complaint by Ramesh Hulumani on behalf of the Swamiji, who was not present at the Mutt during the incident.

The head of the Math, Vidyabhinava Vidyaranya Bharati, was absent from the Mutt at the time of the theft, which has raised questions about the security and timing of the incident. Ramesh Hulumani described the moment of realization, stating that the Swamiji grew suspicious after observing the unusual lock and subsequently discovered the theft.

Superintendent of Police, GK Mithun Kumar, has confirmed that the department is thoroughly investigating the case. The investigation is being conducted from all angles to determine the details of how and when the golden shoe and other items were stolen. As of now, it remains unclear when the theft occurred, adding to the complexity of the case.

The theft of such a valuable and spiritually significant item has had a profound impact on the community associated with the Sringeri Mutt. The Mutt is a place of great reverence and historical significance, and the loss of these items is deeply troubling to the devotees and followers.

The investigation aims to uncover the perpetrators and recover the stolen items, restoring the sense of security and trust within the community. The incident highlights the importance of rigorous security measures to protect valuable and sacred items in places of worship.
