A probationary IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, tragically lost his life in a road accident near Kittane, about 10 km from Hassan, on Sunday. Bardhan, a 2023-batch Karnataka cadre officer, was traveling in an official car from Mysuru to Hassan for his first posting as Assistant Superintendent of Police.
The incident occurred at around 4:20 PM when a tyre burst caused the car to lose control. Driven by District Armed Reserve (DAR) constable Manjegowda, the vehicle crashed into a roadside tree and a house before halting, police said. Bardhan suffered critical head injuries and was rushed to Janapriya Hospital in Hassan. Despite preparations for a green corridor transfer to Bengaluru, he succumbed to his injuries.
Constable Manjegowda sustained minor injuries and is recovering at a Hassan hospital.
Bardhan, 25, hailed from Dosar village in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district, though his family originates from Bihar. A civil engineer by qualification, his father, Akhilesh, serves as a sub-divisional magistrate. Bardhan had recently completed a four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru, following a six-month practical training stint in Hassan.
This devastating incident has deeply impacted the police community as Bardhan was embarking on his promising career in public service.
