In Kallusadarahalli, located in Arsikere taluk of Hassan district, three bears met a tragic end due to electrocution after encountering a live electric wire that had snapped. The victims included a six-year-old male bear, a female bear, and a one-year-old cub.
The cable snapped overnight, likely due to heavy rain and strong winds. The bears wandered into the village searching for food when they accidentally stepped on the live wire.
Farmers visiting their fields the next morning discovered the bears’ carcasses and the downed wire, promptly alerting CESC officials. Villagers expressed concern that, had this incident not occurred, they could have also suffered electrocution from the exposed wire. Forest department officials conducted post-mortems and performed the necessary final rites for the bears.
