A young IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, aged 26, tragically passed away in a fatal accident while en route to his first assignment in Hassan district on Sunday. A resident of Madhya Pradesh, Harsh was part of the 2023 batch of Karnataka cadre officers.
The accident occurred when a burst tyre caused the police vehicle he was traveling in to lose control. The vehicle subsequently collided with both a house and a tree on the roadside. Harsh sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to his wounds during treatment at the hospital. The driver of the vehicle, although injured, suffered only minor injuries.
Footage from the scene showed the police vehicle in a mangled condition, underscoring the intensity of the crash.
Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “It is truly heartbreaking that such a tragic event occurred as he was beginning his career after years of dedicated effort. His hard work should have paid off, but it ended in this unfortunate manner.” He further extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda also expressed his sorrow, describing it as a “devastating loss” for the nation, adding that India had lost a promising officer. Harsh Bardhan had just completed his training at the Karnataka Police Academy and was heading to Hassan to begin his duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur.
