Haveri, June 17: Haveri district has secured the second position in Karnataka for effectively meeting its targets under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Chikkamagaluru leads the state, followed by Raichur in third place.
Achievement Details
The Haveri Zilla Panchayat has surpassed its targets by achieving over 178% of its goals within six months. This success is measured by the generation of person-days, completion of work, and efficient handling of transactions. Authorities have created 13.6 lakh person-days of work in April and May alone, aiming to combat drought conditions and prevent labor migration from the district.
Impact and Initiatives
Under the MGNREGA, Haveri district has created 15.03 lakh person-days of work as of June 11, 2024, benefiting 55,056 families and providing employment to 99,936 individuals. Notably, 49% of the workforce involved are women, with plans to increase this to 60% by encouraging more female participation.
