Hubballi: An alarming incident transpired at Mahalakshmi Badavane in Hubballi when a HESCOM employee was allegedly assaulted by a young individual while attempting to collect an overdue electricity bill.
The HESCOM meter reader, identified as Mallaiah Ganachari, found himself a target of the assault reportedly carried out by a person named Abdul. This incident occurred due to Abdul’s accumulation of pending electricity bills spanning several months, causing this month’s bill to surge beyond Rs 5,000. Moreover, the Griha Jyoti scheme was revoked due to a substantial increase in power consumption by 200 units. Frustrated by these circumstances, Abdul lashed out at Mallaiah as he arrived to collect the outstanding payment.
Reportedly, Abdul used a brick to strike Mallaiah on the head and subjected him to further physical aggression. A formal case has been registered at the Ashoknagar police station in response to this incident.
