Hubballi: As many as eight people sustained burn injuries, including two critically wounded when a fire broke out in a sparkler birthday candle manufacturing factory on Saturday July 23, informed police said.
According to sources, six among the workers are women. The injured are Malikrehan Koppad (18), Nirmala Hucchannavar (29), Gouravva Hiremath (45), Chennavva Arimal (42), Prema Arimal (20), Malesh Haddannavar (27), Nanima Padadar (35) and Vijayalakshmi Yachchanagar (34).
The incident happened on Saturday night in the factory at Tarihal Industrial Area, and within minutes the entire building was engulfed in flames. According to sources, people rushed to rescue the workers there and reportedly dragged out a few of them.
Following the incident, four fire tenders from Hubballi, Amargol, Dharwad, and Kalghatagi reached the spot.
The cause of the fire, however, has not yet been determined.
The authorities are also trying to find out to whom the sparkle-making unit belonged.
Senior police officers and the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
