Hubballi: Hindu outfits installed a Ganesha idol in the Hubballi Eidgah grounds on the morning of Wednesday August 31 following the Karnataka High Court’s approval of Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations.
In Dharwad, the single-judge bench of Justice Ashok Kinagi ruled that, unlike the Eidgah maidan in Bengaluru, there was no title dispute over the Eidgah maidan in Hubballi.
In this case, the Anjuman-i-Islam is not entitled to a benefit as ruled by the Supreme Court in the Bengaluru case, because facts are different, the bench ruled.
The Hubbali Eidgah Maidan is owned by the Hubballi Dharawad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), said High Court, who also noted that the Anjuman-i-Islam has a 999-year lease on the land. However, it said that the HDMC still has rights over the use of the land.
