Hubballi: After Chikkamagaluru SP Annamalai’s idea of using cartoons by Satish Acharya to tackle communal clashes worked out, now the Hubballi-Dharwad police have used the same innovative route here in the city ahead of “Eid Milad” to maintain communal harmony.

In order to spread the message of peace and harmony in the communally sensitive zones in Hubballi which is known for clashes, the police have made use of series of cartoons, created by cartoonist Satish Acharya from Kundapur.

A day before “Eid Milad”, the Commissionerate has posted a few cartoons on their social media sites. The cartoons depict the importance of living in peace, ill-effects of posting fake news on social media platforms etc.

The cartoon series begin with a Hindu and Muslim hugging Mahatma Gandhi with a message “Ishwar Allah Tere Naam” while others talk about importance of “team work” for country’s progress.

A senior police officer said that Hubballi which is known for communal clashes, is comparatively peaceful in the recent past. Police too are striving hard to maintain communal harmony by conducting peace meetings and March, regularly. The cartoons are a strong medium and they convey the message clearly. “Hence we decided to post them to spread awareness about communal harmony “, he added.

Last week, Chikkamagaluru SP Annamalai had requested cartoonist Satish Acharya to draw a series of cartoons which could encourage communal harmony among masses. Chikkamagaluru is considered as a sensitive district as often there is tension over Dattapeetha and Baba Budan Giri, and its challenging for the police to maintain peace here.
