Hubballi: Neha Hiremath, daughter of Congress HDMC member Niranjan Hiremath, was stabbed multiple times, and the accused was arrested within an hour of the incident by the Vidyanagar police, said Renuka Sukumar.
Speaking to reporters, Renuka said that, as per the accused, Fayaz stabbed Neha multiple times and did this act as the victim was avoiding him of late.
Sources said that Neha was stabbed in the BVB College premises around 4.30 pm by her classmate Fayaz. Neha suffered multiple injuries in her back and neck. She was immediately rushed to KIMS Hospital, but doctors declared her dead-on arrival.
Neha, the lone daughter of Niranjan Hiremath, was studying in MCA first year, according to the sources. The incident also raised concern about the security at BVB College. The police are registering the case, and investigation is going on.
Pralhad Joshi has condemned the brutally killing and lashed out at the state government, charged that law and order collapsed in the state. He demanded severe punishment to the accused.
ABVP has called Bandh of colleges in the twin cities, they staged a protest in front of KIMS Hospital and blocked traffic on busy Hubballi-Dharwad Road.
Her final rites would be conducted at Mantur Roads grave yard after the postmortem today afternoon, said family sources.
