Hubballi: Even as the differences among the community leaders and religious heads over the demand for religion status for Lingayat are yet to be resolved, those supporting the Lingayat nomenclature are busy with another rally and convention for the cause and this time in Hubballi.
After such rallies held in Latur of Maharashtra, Belagavi and Kalaburgi in Karnataka, now Hubballi will play host to such a congregation of followers of the faith to highlight the need for religion status.
While the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha is batting for religion status and has campaigned for the Veerashaiva/Lingayat nomenclature, the other group is staunchly fighting for Lingayat-only nomenclature.
In the meantime, efforts are still on to bury the differences between the two groups. The momentum has picked up in and around Hubballi, as it happens to be the venue for the next convention on November 5.
District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni and the former minister and Janata Dal (S) leader Basavaraj Horatti have taken initiatives in organising the mega event in Hubballi. But no prominent BJP leader has attended in such events so far.
Awareness campaigns besides motorcycle rallies are being planned in this regard. It is said that around 5 lakh people are expected to attend the meet.
