A case has been registered against 11 individuals, including nine undertrial prisoners—two of whom are women—from Kalaburagi Central Jail after a threatening audio message warned of a bomb targeting the jail superintendent’s car.
The threat, received on November 28 by a city police inspector, prompted heightened security measures. Jail superintendent Anitha’s vehicle is now parked under CCTV surveillance to ensure her safety.
The case was filed under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant) and Section 189 (threatening a public servant), following a complaint by Anitha. Police suspect the inmates, upset with the superintendent’s strict reforms, collaborated with accomplices outside to issue the threat, though they believe it is unlikely to be credible.
Superintendent Anitha, who assumed her role over a month ago, has implemented stringent measures, including a crackdown on unauthorized luxuries and banning the sale of beedis and gutkha, leading to resistance among inmates.
