Kalaburagi: The Instrument Landing System (ILS), which will help aircraft land safely even in adverse weather conditions, was inaugurated on Thursday by R. Divakar, Joint General Manager (CNS) of Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Kalaburagi Airport.

Speaking on the occasion, Divakar said, “The installation of ILS will contribute to the increase in aircraft operations at Kalaburagi Airport. It will also promote better connectivity and regional economic development in the region.”

Airport Director Chilaka Mahesh said, “Radar-based ILS equipment has been imported from Russia and installed. The ILS equipment provides accurate technical guidance and messages to the pilot even in foggy weather, rain and low light conditions.”

“AAI has spent ₹12.12 crore on this project. This reflects the priority given to the safety and efficiency of air travel for passengers across the country. ILS will facilitate uninterrupted air travel,” he said.

“The pilot can easily see the runway from a height of 550 meters. The runway center lighting system shows a clear path,” he said.
