Ballari: A large number of farmers in Kurugodu Taluk of the District gheraoed the Tahasildar’s office in protest against the damage caused to their crops by taking a substandard pesticide at a higher rate and spraying it on their crops.
On Wednesday November 30, the office-bearers of The Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha staged a protest demanding immediate compensation for the farmers who have suffered losses due to the pesticide.
Farmers in most of the nearby villages, including Kurugodu, have burnt their hands by taking the said pesticide at a higher rate. Many farmers, leaders and organisations have held a meeting at the Tahasildar’s Office raising their voices on behalf of the farmers but till date the compensation arrangements have not been done.
Hence the aggrieved are protesting against the owners of bio-companies and shops in the Taluk.
