Bidar: After the Congress’ relentless struggle over the disease and a series of memorandums submitted to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Agriculture Minister B. C. Patil, the Government woke up from its slumber and has now announced a compensation of Rs. 10,000 per hectare. Even if it is less than the demand of the farmers, it will be of some help to them,” said Priyank Kharge.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said, “In Kalyana Karnataka region, the toor crop was completely destroyed due to disease, forcing farmers to resort to suicide. We fought for justice of the farmers and for the Government to announce compensation,” he said.
I visited the fields and checked the diseased toot. Later, a protest march was taken out from the Congress Office to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner in the presence of farmers, he added.
