Kalaburagi: In a tragic incident, Gowdappa Gowda Patil, the president of Madara (B) gram panchayat and a prominent Congress leader closely associated with the incumbent Afzalpur Congress MLA M Y Patil, was ambushed and fatally assaulted by unidentified individuals using lethal weapons near the Chavadapura Cross Bus Stand in Afzalpur.
The assailants, who arrived in two Bolero vehicles, attacked Goddappa Gowda when he was standing near Chavadapura bus stand. He was beaten on the neck with a talwar, hacked to death with deadly weapons. The miscreants danced around the body, lying in a pool of blood. According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of people present at the spot fled the spot in panic over the gruesome murder that took place in front of their eyes.
The body was taken to Kalaburagi for post-mortem. SP Adoor Srinivasulu, Ganagapura PSI and staff visited the spot and inspected the spot. Ganagapura police, who have registered a murder case, have formed a team to trace the killers.
MLA M.Y. Shivakumar recalled the gruesome murder of his close aide Goddappa Gowda in broad daylight at a bus stand in Chavadapura, the heart of Afzalpur constituency, which he represents. Patil strongly condemned it and demanded a high-level probe.
