Kalaburagi: All India Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha’s National General Secretary Ishwar Khandre has urged the State Government to immediately recommend inclusion of Veerashaiva-Lingayat and sub-sects in the list of Backward Classes (OBCs) without delay as the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community, which has done social justice, is now economically and socially backward.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Pratibha Puraskar organised by the District Unit of Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha and youth wing at Veerashaiva Kalyana Mantapa in City.
The Veerashaiva-Lingayat community was somewhat economically and socially better off in the past. However, the community, which depended on agriculture, suffered a major blow to agriculture, leaving the community and the sub-groups in dire straits. Therefore, justice will be done only if internal reservation is provided along with inclusion in the OBC list,” he said.
