Kalaburagi: National Centre for Seismology informed that an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter was detected as it hit the District on the morning of Wednesday January 18.
The earthquake occurred at 9.48 am at a depth of 5 km for about five seconds, creating panic among people in Benakanahalli and surrounding areas.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.4, Occurred on 18-01-2023, 09:48:26 IST, Lat: 17.06 & Long: 77.18, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Kalaburagi, Karnataka,” tweeted the National Centre for Seismology.
The district authorities have sent teams to the places where the earthquake struck to gather more input. They have also requested the people not to panic.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Kalaburagi District on Thursday, the authorities are concerned about the development.
