Kalaburagi: As the state government is gearing up for the celebrations of Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary for the first time, few right wing oganisations have threatened to disrupt it.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad condemned the decision to celebrate the anniversary as a State-sponsored event and declared that it would disrupt the celebrations across the State.
“Tipu was neither a sultan nor a great warrior. He was a Hindu hater and converted several thousands of Hindus into Islam. He was anti-Kannadiga and his birth anniversary should not be given an official status,” said Gopalji, kshetra sanhatana karyadarshi of VHP on Tuesday.
The government will be celebrating it as an official event for the first time at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha on November 10.
Noted Kannada writer Girish Karnad, former Vice-Chancellor and historian B. Sheik Ali, writer Baragur Ramachandrappa, Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj, historians Talakadu Chikkarange Gowda and N.V. Narasimhaiah will be the key speakers on the occasion.
