Koppala: The Dasoha tradition of Basavanna is being literally followed by only few saints and mathas in the State.

Among them Tumakuru Siddaganga is renowned for 3 type of dasoha. Education, Meals, and Wisdom. Likewise Gavimatha of Koppala follows the same. During Koppala Gavimath fair over lakh people were served meals on a single day.

One of the devotees of Gavimatha said that, “Gavimatha is a shelter for many children. This matha is not only focusing on religious aspect but also it has great concern about betterment of the society. The matha organises a fair every year in January with a particular social theme. It all started in 2016, and at the time there were no blood banks in the District. We had to go all the way to Hubballi for our blood requirements. Therefore, Gavimatha Seer decided to bring awareness among the people about ‘Blood Donation’ with the theme of the fair being blood donation. Later in 2017 ‘Awareness against Child Marriage’ was the theme wherein the matha tried to bring awareness on importance of girls’ education, health and sanitation. In 2018, water conservation was the theme under name ‘Jaladeekshe’. At that time, Seer himself came forward to clean Hirehalla, the main tributory of River Tungabhadra. Also 24 check dams were constructed within area of 6 kms. In 2019 the fair had theme of ‘Krupa Drushti’, which helped spread awareness on eye donation and also the math has started 24/7 library for competitive examination aspirants. Further, the matha has adopted Adavuhalli Village in 2020.”

Now, the matha is constructing a large dining hall which will come up at a cost Rs. 6 Crore. In this hall as many as 5000 children can have meals at a time.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka Gavimath Seer’s Assistant Sharanu said, “As the admission of the children has increased this year, our seer has decided to construct huge dinning hall for children.”
