Yadgir: Three persons died and 39 people, including 10 children, were hospitalised for diarrhoea and vomiting in Hotapeth village in Shahapur Taluk.

According to sources, while 90-year-old Eramma Hiremath died on October 22 and Honnappa Gowda (45) on October 23, Siddamma Hiremath, 80, died on October 24. They reportedly died due to vomiting and diarrhoea.

However, the Health Department officials claim that Honnappa Gowda died from heart-related complications and Siddamma Hiremath from age-related illnesses.

Villagers allege that the polluted water, which is supplied to each home through an individual tap, is what caused the deaths and hospitalisations. An open well is used to supply the water.

According to the villagers, several pipeline breaches contaminated the water.
