Karnataka Launches Nipuna Karnataka Skilling Scheme For Guaranteed Employment

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has approved a new skilling initiative called “Nipuna Karnataka,” aimed at providing guaranteed employment opportunities for the youth. The scheme, with a total budget of Rs 300 crore, was greenlit by the Cabinet on Friday.

Of the total budget, Rs 100 crore will be allocated by the Karnataka government, while the remainder is expected to come from corporate contributions, including CSR funds from major companies such as TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. Other participating firms include Bosch Global, Tata Technologies, and Capgemini.

The scheme intends to align training programs with industry demands, focusing on emerging technologies like cybersecurity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. The goal is to offer industry-relevant skills and foster public-private partnerships to enhance Karnataka’s position as a global IT leader.

IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized that the program will target both youth and women re-entering the workforce after maternity breaks. The training will be available in cities and district centers, though the mode—online or offline—is still under discussion.

The initiative comes after a controversial proposal for local quotas in the private sector, which faced backlash from industry leaders. The Nipuna Karnataka scheme aims to address these concerns by providing a structured path to employment through industry partnerships.
