On Sunday, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge forecasted that within the next six months, half of the BJP leaders in the state would either be behind bars or seeking bail. Speaking to reporters, Kharge stressed that while the Congress government’s primary focus is on effective governance, it will address discrepancies from the previous administration.
Kharge’s comments follow Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam. Kharge clarified that the Congress is not pursuing a witch-hunt but is committed to investigating over 35 pending cases against BJP leaders. He revealed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to scrutinize these cases, with interim reports already submitted in several instances.
Kharge accused Governor Gehlot of acting as a “puppet” for the BJP and criticized the BJP for allegedly manipulating institutions and using the governor to prolong the case against Siddaramaiah. He also claimed that the BJP’s rise to power in Karnataka and other regions was not through popular mandate but through other means.
