From August 1 to 15, Karnataka’s traffic police have registered 12,000 cases against motorists for driving or riding on the wrong side of the roads. This significant number highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar shared the district-wise breakdown on his ‘X’ account:
- Bengaluru: 9,397 cases
- Mysuru City: 10 cases
- Mysuru District: 47 cases
- Mandya: 4 cases
- Hassan: 97 cases
- Chamarajanagar: 40 cases
- Kodagu: 0 cases
The statewide operations, conducted jointly by Traffic and Civil Police, aimed at curbing wrong-side driving on National Highways. The crackdown resulted in a total of 12,096 cases and 51 FIRs being registered.
ADGP Kumar emphasized the severe risks associated with wrong-side driving, which can lead to serious accidents and fatalities. He underscored that while penalizing offenders is essential, rigorous enforcement of traffic rules is crucial for preventing such violations and enhancing road safety.
