Karnataka’s Animal Husbandry Minister, K. Venkatesh, confirmed on Wednesday that milk prices will be increased in response to mountingproduction costs, following demands from farmers. However, Venkatesh did not provide a specific timeline or the extent of the hike.

In a statement made during a session in the Legislative Council, Venkatesh explained, “Farmers have requested an increase of Rs 10 per litre. While we have not finalized the exact amount, discussions are ongoing, and we will consult with the Chief Minister before implementing the price hike.”

He acknowledged that rising production costs were a key factor behind the request, emphasizing that the farmers’ demand was justified. “We understand the concerns of both consumers and farmers. Therefore, we will ensure a balanced approach when raising the price,” Venkatesh added.

This comes after Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) chairman Bheema Naik also suggested that a price increase was on the horizon. KMF, which markets its dairy products under the well-known ‘Nandini’ brand, is expected to play a significant role in implementing the price adjustments.

As production costs continue to rise, consumers and farmers alike are awaiting further details on the planned hike.
