Ramanagara: The Karnataka silk department is grappling with financial difficulties, prompting Animal Husbandry and Silk Minister K. Venkatesh to assure that measures will be taken to address the crisis. The minister acknowledged shortcomings in the department, including staff shortages, and proposed meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with a delegation of MLAs from sericulture-related districts to find solutions.
Venkatesh’s assurance comes as a relief to the silk industry, which has been facing numerous challenges. The minister’s commitment to reviving the department is seen as a positive step towards restoring the industry’s former glory.
In a separate development, a farmer’s demand for a milk price hike received a lukewarm response from the minister. Venkatesh cited a recent increase in milk packet weight and price, indicating that further action on the proposal would be delayed for now.
