Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar revealed plans on Tuesday to garner support from approximately ten political parties of the INDIA bloc in the state for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a joint press conference of the INDIA bloc parties, Shivakumar emphasized the importance of unity among alliance partners. He highlighted past instances, such as the 2019 elections in Tumakuru, where cooperation among parties significantly impacted the electoral outcome. Shivakumar stressed the need for a consolidated approach to avoid similar situations in the 2024 elections.
Shivakumar also criticized the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for what he deemed as baseless allegations against opposition leaders. He called for clear responses regarding issues such as election bonds and the alleged targeting of Left parties.
Expressing confidence in the Congress’s electoral prospects, Shivakumar asserted that the party would secure more than 20 seats in Karnataka. He announced plans to establish a coordination committee comprising all INDIA bloc parties to enhance cooperation.
Responding to queries about the potential impact of alliance partners, Shivakumar underscored the significance of every vote in electoral politics, citing examples where a single vote made a decisive difference.
The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka are scheduled to be conducted in two phases on April 26 and May 7.
